Growing Interest in ST/X
You are not alone !
The interest in ST/X is growing. These days, we measure between 25 and 40 downloads every day. Over the year, this makes quite a few thousand new friends of ST/X.
Welcome to the club !
Smalltalk Wishlist
You can play an active role in the improvement of the Smalltalk/X system, by publishing example programs, tutorials, tools and goodies. Or send them to us for them to be integrated into the next release.
As we do not speak all of the required languages, we'd appreciate very much if you look at the language translation files ("resources/xx.rs") and returned them with more or corrected contents to us. Also getting translated versions of the online documentation in many other languages would be very helpful. Smalltalk/X is free - a little returned present from your side would be absolutely great !
New Smalltalk/X Release
The current Smalltalk/X release 5.4.6 is ready for download on our server. We have fixed more bugs related to the Vista operating system. Also, the Vista-Look was improved. New features are found in the Browser, Debugger, GUI-builder, Bitmap-Editor, Workspace and others. Especially worth mentioning is the Application-Packager, which generates self-installing deployable packages in a few minutes. Of course, all the highlights of the previous releases are also included.
Smalltalk/X DownloadSmalltalk/X may be used even for the development of commercial Software and Applications without any licence fee (a few minor restrictions apply [*]). We appreciate your interest in Smalltalk and only ask in reply for you to share your joy and experience with others and help us marketing the great Smalltalk ideas ;-).
In addition, it would be nice if you share example programs, demos, improvements, add-ons and national language translations with others by publishing those or send them to us for integration into the next release.

The download packages contain a complete version, including all Smalltalk sources, development tools, stc compiler and makefiles. However, they do not include support. If you require support, please contact us. The free packages as provided below are updated only once or twice per year. Customers with a support contract will get new features and bug fixes more often, timely and also automatically if desired.
If you are a professional software developer, you definitely gain considerable advantages from a support contract.

The packages are quite big (around 40-85 Mb depending on target system). This version is also available on CD on request if you have problems loading the files, if your download bandwidth is too low or the costs are too high, or if the security-policy of your company prohibits internet downloads. We will, however, have to charge a small fee for posting and packaging.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT unpack these packages in a directory structure of another version. Unix/Linux users must make sure that the “common.tgz” file matches the appropriate version (do not mix versions).

Please, also have a look at our updated Installation Instructions
